Non-Rev (Non-Revenue Passenger)
What is a Non-Rev?
A Non-Rev (Non-Revenue Passenger) is someone who flies at little to no cost, usually as part of an airline’s employee travel benefit program. These passengers fly on standby status, meaning they can only board if there are unsold seats after all paying customers have been accommodated. Many airlines offer Non-Rev travel perks to pilots, flight attendants, and other employees, allowing them and their families to travel for free or at a significantly reduced fare. However, because they do not have confirmed tickets, Non-Rev travelers must be flexible with their schedules and may experience unexpected delays or cancellations. For business travel, companies generally do not rely on Non-Rev travel, as it lacks guaranteed seating and is highly unpredictable. However, corporate travel managers may encounter Non-Rev policies when booking flights for employees with airline partnerships.
