Skycap
What is a Skycap?
A Skycap is a service worker at airports who helps passengers carry luggage, check in bags, and navigate terminals. They primarily assist travelers at curbside check-in stations, baggage claim areas, and sometimes within the airport itself. Skycaps help reduce travel stress by handling heavy bags, securing luggage tags, and expediting check-in for certain airlines.
Most Skycaps work for tips, though some airports and airlines employ them directly. While primarily found in North America, similar services exist in other regions under different names. Business travelers and frequent flyers often use Skycap services to speed up airport procedures and avoid long check-in lines.
Some airlines offer Skycap services as a premium perk for elite travelers, allowing them to drop off luggage at a curbside station instead of going inside the terminal. Many corporate travel policies allow reimbursement for Skycap tips, especially when employees are carrying work-related equipment or multiple bags.
